About Us
Overview

(About Us) Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP 8171) was launched by the Govt of Pakistan launched in July 2008 to act as the main National safety net institution and mitigate the negative consequence of weak economic growth. at that time the nation was dealing with the effects of the global financial crisis on its economy as well as fast food price inflation, with the cost of basics hitting a 30-year high.
The program aims to provide financial transfers to worthy and vulnerable women and their families from the nation’s poorest households, regardless of their political affiliations, race, place of residence, or religious convictions. Reaching the targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations on ending severe and chronic poverty and empowering women are among the long-term goals. The Prime Minister of Pakistan and the President of Pakistan serve as the Program’s principal executive and administrative patrons, respectively, and it was founded by an Act of Parliament.
The following are the program’s objectives
1. Strengthen the financial standing of the impoverished and their dependent families;
2. Develop and execute all-encompassing policies and focused initiatives for the betterment of disadvantaged and vulnerable individuals; and
3. Encourage fair distribution of wealth, particularly for lower-income groups.
The results of the first national door-to-door poverty survey were used to create the largest database of Pakistan’s poorest households, which is held by BISP. Planning strategies and programs for social protection and poverty alleviation use this data.
